High efficiency from DIN-rail power supply

Date Added: August 29, 2007 05:37:16 AMPrevious    Next

The new DRP-960 is the latest and most powerful member of the DRP family of high performance switched mode power supplies

Its arrival means that Lambda, the Ilfracombe-based power supply manufacturer, is now able to provide the process control, automation and industrial computing markets with the most comprehensive range of high quality, high reliability and low-priced DIN-rail mounted power solutions right up to 960W.

Believed to be the smallest and lightest DIN-rail power supply available at this power level, the DRP960 weighs just 3kg and measures only 282x125x128mm.

The DIN-rail system makes mounting very quick and easy and suits both 7.5mm and 15mm DIN-rail.

The devices just snap on to attach them safely and firmly.

Removal is equally as simple, no tools are necessary at all.

The DRP-960 is specifically designed with parallel operation in mind, employing an efficient passive current sharing technique, thus enabling several units to operate in parallel to suit very high power requirements.

With a 3-phase input voltage of 400VAC, tolerances between -15% and +20%, and input frequencies of 47-63Hz, the DRP-960 provides a single output voltage of between 24VDC and 28VDC, adjustable by a covered front-panel potentiometer.

A typical efficiency of 92% and an MTBF of 310,000 hours demonstrate the new unit's inherent high reliability, while voltage regulation better than 2% for any combination of mains, load or temperature, and an output ripple less than 2mVp-p result in a high integrity output.

The output is filtered against common mode noise.

Additionally an active transient filter at the input gives transient immunity to VDE0160/W2 for all load conditions.

The new power supply incorporates not only over voltage protection but also a switch-on/overload feature.

This ensures safer switch-on into highly non-linear loads with large starting currents, and short-term overloads result in current limiting and not in an immediate shut-down.

As with all other DRP units, the DRP-960 is fully compliant to the EN60950 safety standard and carries the following EMC approvals: EN50081-1, -2, Class B EN55022, EN50082-1, -2, EN61000-4-2 and Level 4 EN61000-4-4.
